The Government in Argentina believes Brexit could boost its chances of taking control of the Falkland Islands.
Speaking in in Brussels the countries Foreign Minister said Buenos Aires is watching developments closely.
Susana Malcorra says Britain's departure from the EU could weaken European support for the UK's sovereignty over the Falklands.
Malcorra said in Brussels:
“The European Union, through its agreements, is connected very closely and strongly to the United Kingdom... We are following it carefully."
Speaking about British exercises in the Falkland Islands last year Malcorra is quoted by the Express newspaper as saying:
"It [the exercise] causes pain and deep anxiety because it carries a presumption of a conflict hypothesis."
